Twilight star Robert Pattinson was spotted at Cecconi’s Italian restaurant in London on Feb. 6. Rob, 22, has been relaxing in his hometown since Dec. 22 and was recently spotted playing small gigs on the local music scene.

Pattinson, who has been laying low since Twi mania exploded around the world, attended the Vogue Pre-BAFTA Dinner hosted by British Vogue editor Alexandra Shulman and Soho House founder Nick Jones.

The BAFTA (British Academy of Film and Television Arts) Awards, which are the British equivalent of the Academy Awards, takes place at London’s Royal Opera House on Feb. 8.

Rob was photographed wearing a gray jacket over a navy button-down shirt with black trousers and black Nike sneakers as he mingled with fellow British actors Tom Sturridge, 23 (pictured left), and Andrew Garfield, 25 (center).

Pattinson will begin filming New Moon, the sequel to Twilight, in March. Pre-production on the film has already begun in Vancouver and Volterra, Italy, where locations are being scouted. Meanwhile, Twi continues to tear up the box office, having grossed over $348 million worldwide since its Nov. 21 U.S. release.

Rob can be seen next on the big screen in the independent film Little Ashes, where he plays the eccentric Spanish painter Salvador Dali. Since Twilight morphed into a box-office juggernaut, the 6’1″ British hunk has become one of the most sought-after young actors in Hollywood—a role Pattinson is not altogether comfortable with. “I wasn’t really prepared at all [for the fan hysteria],” he says. “It still gets bigger and bigger every single week.”

The paparazzi’s sudden obsession with Rob is part of the reason he prefers hanging out in London when he’s not working. “It’s crazy,” he says. “In L.A., someone spots me almost every single day.”

In England, Rob is much less of a paparazzi target than in the U.S., where his fan base has grown enormously over the past few months. “I always think that I can still go back to London and sort of disappear, but it may be too late for that!” he says.

The modest and self-deprecating Rob finds the fan adoration overwhelming. “The more people who tell you [how great you are], the bigger the need for you to prove it,” he says. Somehow, we have a feeling the talented actor won’t have a hard time living up to the hype.

Little Ashes opens March 27, while New Moon comes out in theaters Nov. 20.
