Twilight star Robert Pattinson wasted no time departing Los Angeles after presenting at the 2009 Academy Awards on Feb. 22. Rob was spotted catching a departing flight from LAX Airport on Feb. 23—less than 24 hours after he took the stage on Hollywood’s biggest night.

Pattinson, who had attended the Oscars and several glittery after-parties the previous evening, rushed through security in dark shades and clothing as he left Tinseltown.

The 22-year-old British heartthrob is likely heading back to his hometown of London. He has previously stated that he doesn’t feel entirely at home in the States.

“I haven’t moved [to L.A.] for good,” said Pattinson. “I live in a rented apartment where all of the furniture is rented.” The Twilight sensation has skyrocketed to international stardom overnight, thanks to the vampire romance’s runaway box office, but he insists he’s still just a regular guy at heart.

“I miss being able to go for a walk,” said Rob. “I miss the smell of London…I almost cried because I missed it so much. And I miss my dog [Patty, a female West Highland white terrier].”

Meanwhile, Pattinson is gearing up to start shooting New Moon, the sequel to Twilight, in March. Filming is expected to take place in Vancouver and Italy. New Moon hits theaters on Nov. 20. In a stunning turn of events, Eclipse, the sequel to New Moon, will be rolled out just seven months afterward. June 30, 2010 is the scheduled release date for Eclipse, film studio Summit Entertainment has confirmed.

Chris Weitz, who is directing New Moon, will not be helming Eclipse, since he’ll be doing post-production on the film just as pre-production begins on Eclipse. A new director for Eclipse has not yet been named.

For his part, Pattinson is taking prepping for the shoot in stride. “It’s weird, because they are shooting it in a different city [than the first film],” he says. “I’ve talked to [Chris Weitz] a bit, but we’ve only talked about my character; I haven’t really talked about the whole look of it.”

When asked which scene he’s looking forward to shooting the most, Pattinson jokes: The part where Edward dumps Bella. “The scene where we temporarily break up,” he says. “On one hand, it’s completely impossible. And on the other, it sets a very different tone to the series. I think it will be good.”

Meanwhile, Pattinson can enjoy some peace and quiet before Twi-mania revs up again. Dealing with overnight stardom has been overwhelming for the young actor.

“I was laughing in the car on the way over here [to the Academy Awards],” Rob told Ryan Seacrest on Oscar night. “[Fame] is completely ridiculous.”
