Twilight star Robert Pattinson arrives in Tokyo on Feb. 24, just two days after presenting at the 2009 Academy Awards in Los Angeles. Rob, 22, will attend the Japanese premiere of Twilight on Feb. 27.

Pattinson was greeted by throngs of screaming fans at Narita International Airport. The Twilight heartthrob will be joined by co-stars Kristen Stewart, 18, and Taylor Lautner, 17, at the film’s Asian premiere.

After the event, the young actors will begin shooting New Moon, the sequel to Twilight, in March. Filming will take place in Vancouver and in Volterra, Italy. Pattinson, who will reprise his role as the alluring vampire Edward Cullen, says Edward will become a much darker character.

“This is my last night of light,” Rob said Feb. 22 on the Oscar red carpet. “I go up to Canada soon [to shoot New Moon]. And my character goes 50 times darker then it did in the first movie.”

Despite having a new director (Chris Weitz), Pattinson says the sequel’s look and feel will be somewhat similar. “I think there’s going to be some continuity,” he says. “But it’s weird, because they are shooting it in a different city [than the first film].”

Rob was surprised to learn that a release date had already been set for Eclipse (the sequel to New Moon). “I didn’t even know that!” he exclaimed when told that Eclipse will be rolled out in U.S. theaters just seven months after New Moon.

Rob, who will be busy with both sequels over the next two years, expects that Breaking Dawn—the fourth and last installment in the Twilight book series—will also be adapted into a film. “Breaking Dawn is going to be at some point as well,” he said. “I’m gonna be Twilighted out by the end of the year.”
