Vanessa Hudgens Talks About ‘New Moon’ Casting Rumor
February 25, 2009, 11:52 am

With many still wondering on her status in “The Twilight Saga’s New Moon”, Vanessa Hudgens finally comes clean about the circulating rumor, linking her to Leah Clearwater character. At the 2009 Oscars, the “High School Musical 3: Senior Year” starlet told Mario Lopez of “Extra” that the speculation is “still a rumor”.

Though clearing up the rumor, the 20-year-old admitted that she still keeps her hope on joining the “Twilight” sequel. “I’m really interested,” she fessed up, adding, “I think it’s a great project but nothing’s happening as of now.” Asked further whether she is a fan of the first film, she responded, “Yes love it. My sister has read all of the books, too.”

Back in early February, the possibility of Hudgens starring as Leah Clearwater in “New Moon” has been shot down by screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg when revealing that the particular character won’t be seen at least until “Eclipse”. “I’m not sure about [final] casting but I had heard Vanessa Hudgens was going up for the part of Leah [Clearwater, a werewolf],” said the scribe. “But at the moment, the part of Leah doesn’t happen until the third movie.”

“The Twilight Saga’s New Moon”, the official title recently given to Stephenie Meyer’s adapted “New Moon”, itself is a sequel to the hit 2008 vampire drama “Twilight”. It will follow Bella Swan as she deals with her personal conflicts following Edward Cullen’s abrupt departure. Expected to start the principal photography in mid-March in Vancouver for a November 20 U.S. release, this Summit Entertainment movie will have Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, Taylor Lautner and other original stars reprising their roles.

Please, please, please can she not be in the movie.

More casting news has surfaced this morning for NEW MOON, the next installment in THE TWILIGHT SAGA. Carrier Talent Management has announced via it’s website, that actor Bronson Pelletier has joined the cast in “a lead role.” Pelletier is familiar to Canadian audiences from his role in the series RENEGADEPRESS.COM, while others may have seen him on the Discovery Channel’s DINOSAPIENS.

Carrier Talent released the following statement: “Congratulations to Bronson who scores a lead role in the highly anticipated ‘Twilight’ feature film sequel ‘New Moon’. It’s rumored he will be co-starring with Dakota Fanning.” There is no word yet on which role Pelletier will be playing.

Twilight Casting: Who’s In? Who’s Out?

The Twilight train doesn’t seem to be making any stops on its way to total world domination. The 2-disc, special-edition DVD of the first film is slated for release on March 21, but all eyes seem to be on New Moon. Who are the actresses involved in the latest round of casting rumors?

Vanessa Hudgens
As implausible as it may be, gossip sites were throwing around Vanessa Hudgens as a contender for the role of “Leah Clearwater,” the only female shape-shifter in existence. We’re seriously hoping this is just a rumor—unless Vanessa is going to break out some of those dazzle-rific glow-in-the-dark shoelaces she sported in the video for “Sneakernight.” That would be the only thing that would be able to distract us from how awful an actress she is.

Dakota Fanning
Rumor has it that Dakota Fanning didn’t have to audition for the role of “Jane,” a bitter and menacing vampire in the Volturi guard who causes heap-loads of trouble in New Moon, because director Chris Weitz thought she was so perfect to play the part. The studio has yet to confirm the casting, but Fanning has gone on record to say, “I really hope it works out. It would be a really fantastic experience, I’m sure.” Odds are, this rumor is going to end up being true—and we couldn’t be more stoked!

AnnaLynne McCord
According to Mark Malkin at EOnline.com, AnnaLynne McCord is the latest lucky lady to be name-dropped as having a possible role in New Moon. She would play some hot chick named “Heidi,” who’s one of the vampires that offers up human sacrifices to the Volturi guard.

Sources tell me McCord has auditioned for the role. “It’s not a big part,” one of the sources said. “Heidi would be more like a cameo.”

Since when did being a craptastic actress on a remake TV show qualify you for cameo status? Just sayin.

New Moon Casting Call in Vancouver?
January 28, 2009, 5:44 am

The folks at Movieset dropped us a line this afternoon directing our attention to a Vancouver Craiglist post which appears to be an open casting call for New Moon, the werewolf and vampire-populated installment of the Twilight series directed by Chris Weitz.

The listing does not specify what film it’s for, but Movieset speculates, due to the requirements (seeking young Native American types), it may very well be the sequel. And we agree as the follow-up focuses heavily on Bella’s relationship with her werewolf boy toy Jacob Black (Taylor Lautner), a member of the Quileute tribe.

Check out the listing below. If you live in the area and plan on auditioning, good luck!
