PARK CITY, Utah If “Adventureland” were like most Sundance movies, its planned opening in theaters March 27 would probably be greeted with little awareness and modest expectations.
But it happens to feature Kristen Stewart, star of the recent teen vampire blockbuster “Twilight,” bringing this tale of coming of age in the 1980s a newly high profile.
In an interview following the “Adventureland” premiere at Sundance, Stewart acknowledged life has changed since “Twilight” put her on the A list. “It makes doing stuff that I care about much easier,” she said. “I’ve wanted to do a couple of projects for years, and now my whole year is booked.”
In “Adventureland,” Stewart plays a damaged woman who becomes the love interest of a recent college grad ( Jesse Eisenberg of “The Squid and the Whale”) while they work together in an amusement park.
The “Twilight” sequel starts filming in March, and Stewart is also set to star in “Welcome to the Rileys,” playing a runaway stripper, and to portray rocker Joan Jett in a biopic.
Of meeting Jett, Stewart said: “I don’t know of anyone (else) who you could seriously say is the coolest person you’ve ever met (and) also be the least intimidating. She’s really nice.”
Before “Twilight,” Stewart had never heard of the book series on which it was based. She preferred reading Steinbeck and other classics she found in used-book stores, she said. “My favorite book is ‘East of Eden.’” Sundance will name its award winners and wrap up this weekend.

Kristen Stewart on Sundance:
“I’ve been here a couple of times and I’ve always really liked it. You get an honest audience and they receive it [the film] however they may. They’re not prepped, it’s very real. There’s less control here so you get to do your own thing. It’s much more relaxed.”
